MAYOR MIKE PLEDGES SAFER DOWNTOWN

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is pledging a safer downtown as the rebuilt 16th Street Mall opens in the aftermath of a post-pandemic crimewave and fentanyl crisis.

"We're taking big steps to make Downtown Denver the safest and most welcoming in the country," Johnston said on social media. "More patrols, mounted officers and mental health support will ensure everyone feels safe—whether you're down here for Opening Day or the newly renovated 16th Street," the mayor said.
