POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN WELTON SHOOTING

Paul Lowell Cushinberry, 53, was arrested in connection with a shooting and standoff in the 2300-block of Welton Street in Denver, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred Tuesday night and the victim, an adult male, was expected to survive, police said.

The suspect was also accused of firing a shot at police through an apartment wall during the standoff and faces charges of first-degree assault and attempted murder of a peace officer.
 
There was a large police presence as officers attempted to contact the suspect and neighbors were ordered to shelter in place. An argument led to the shooting. The men were acquainted.

The 5-foot-10 Cushinberry was booked into the Downtown Detention Center on Wednesday and was bond was set at $200,000, jail records show.
